Status: In 2017, we dropped all of the heirloom ulluco varieties that we carried. Most of those varieties were carrying viruses and the cost of testing and cleaning them would just have been too high. They posed a risk to our breeding program, since we don’t want viruses from the heirlooms infecting our new varieties. All of the varieties now appearing in the catalog are new, produced here from true seed. We’re offering most of the varieties that we have, barring those that are really far below average. We’re offering so many varieties because there is no way to know which of these might have the ability to set seed in other climates. I hope that we will start to get reports of seed production at least in other parts of the Pacific Northwest as these varieties spread.
