Solanum hougasii is a hexaploid wild potato from central Mexico. It has resistance to Columbia root knot nematode, which could be quite a valuable trait in the Pacific Northwest. It can be crossed directly with tetraploid domesticated potatoes, producing small amounts of hybrid pentaploid seed. Some plants produce non-bitter and presumably edible tubers, but not all.
