Qoyllu is a Bolivian heirloom potato. It has strong dormancy and also tuberizes under long days with about a four month maturity, so it is easy to grow in North America, unlike many diploid potatoes. The tubers are round and mostly in the 2 to 3 inch range. Skin color is red and flesh is white. The flavor is excellent, with firm dry flesh. Qoyllu was provided by the USDA Potato Introduction Station as PI 595444.
Purple Pinecone 2016 is high dormancy diploid that I use for breeding. It has a larger top end tuber size than Qoyllu and yellow flesh. I crossed these varieties in 2019 in the hope of getting progeny with strong dormancy, large tubers, glossy skin, and yellow flesh. I will not be replenishing this cross, so when current stock runs out, it will not be offered again.
