Solanum boliviense is an unusual diploid potato species from Bolivia and Argentina. Plants are low growing, often taking rosette form. This is probably an adaptation to cold and dry climates. Tubers are small and borne on long stolons as is the case for almost all wild potatoes. While some can be bitter, palatable tubers are common from this species.
S. boliviense is one of the parents of the frost resistant domesticated potato S. ajanhuiri and this species can be recreated by crossing S. boliviense with diploid domesticated potatoes.
